Zen steamer

February 2004

Zen is known as a way of life from the far east. The goal is to find peace within oneself. This peace can be found by living a minimal life, and by carrying out rituals, finding mental rest in repetitive, predefined actions.

Zen translates to design as using natural materials, no decoration and slow, thoughtful handlings of the product.

My idea was to make a Zen-like alternative for microwave meals. In this hasty society, meals loose their ritual value. This Zen steamer prepares the food in a fast way. It can stand in the middle of the table while people sit around and talk.

This page shows some pictures of the exhibition of the model. The next shows a 3D computermodel of the product in its setting.
